The Department of Painting is one of the fundamental departments of Mykhailo Boichuk Kyiv State Academy of Decorative-Applied Arts and Design. Teaching at the Department of Painting is based on the achievements of the Ukrainian and European school of academic painting. The purpose of teaching the academic discipline is the development of artistic abilities, a sense of colour, colour scheme, mastering the basics of composition.

Painting is a basic discipline that is end-to-end for all specializations of the academy. It helps future specialists to acquire necessary knowledge and practical skills in figurative reproduction of the surrounding world , moulds general art culture and literacy. Combining the traditions of classical painting and the achievements of modern art masters, the department performs the tasks of the discipline "Decorative interpretation of academic problems in painting".In 2019 on the basis of the Department of Painting  there was opened a specialization "Easel painting".
